FAQs

What is pelvic floor therapy?

Your pelvic floor is a group of muscles which run from your pubic bone to your tailbone (or coccyx) and is similar to a hammock. It provides support to our pelvic organs, keeps us continent, births babies and has a key role in sexual function. When dysfunction or injury is present, one may experience leaking, pain or prolapse. Physical therapy is used to either uptrain (aka strengthen) or downtrain (decrease tension), improve motor control and timing of the muscle activation patterns and provide education on lifestyle modifications to help with prevention or symptom management.

Do I need a physician’s referral?

In the states of Illinois & Utah, you do not need a referral and can go straight to a PT for evaluation. If I feel your condition is not musculoskeletal or neuromuscular in nature, I will refer you to your primary care provider. Your physician will be notified of your evaluation and progress throughout therapy.

What type of patients and conditions do you treat?

I specialize in both prenatal and postpartum women. Pregnancy-related conditions include: neck/back/rib/pelvic/coccyx/SI joint/round ligament pain. I also assist with preparing women for birth and postpartum to rehab their pelvic floor, diastasis recti (abdominal separation), and cesarean or perineal scar mobilization. With that being said, I am also a physical therapist who was trained in treating the body as a whole. With that, I am happy to help you with any of your musculoskeletal concerns.

Do you take insurance?

Fem Restore is a fee-for-service entity and is considered an out-of-network provider. This allows me to spend more time with you, one-on-one, providing more detailed & personalized care. This generally should lead to fewer visits down the road. I am happy to provide you with a detailed invoice after each session so you can submit it to your insurance for reimbursement.

*Pregnancy wellness visits are considered wellness services and are not eligible for insurance reimbursement.
